James E. Pritchard
James E. Pritchard, 60, of Coldwater, died Monday, September 27, 1999, at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
Mr. Pritchard was born in Homer November 6, 1938, to George and Clairabel (Earl) Pritchard. He graduated from Homer High School in 1956 and attended Albion College for one year. He was an electrician, retiring from IBEW Local 445 in Battle Creek after 21 years.
Mr. Pritchard enjoyed reading, traveling, wildlife, nature and his two dogs. He was a member of the Coldwater Eagles Club.
In addition to his mother, Clairabel Thompson of Homer, survivors include his wife Sally; two daughters, Gina Pritchard of Albion and Jennifer (Steve) Johnson of Olivet; two sons, James R. (Karma) Pritchard of Meridian, Indiana, and Timothy (Mary) Pritchard of Ocqueoc; a stepdaughter, SharAnne (Joe) Carnell of Battle Creek; two stepsons, Steven Snyder of Orange, California, and Todd (Mari) Snyder of Marshall; a sister, Elizabeth (Chas) Sleath of Clancy, Montana; and seven grandchildren.
There were no services; cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements were handled by Putnam Funeral Home of Coldwater.

Eva B. Butler
Eva B. Butler, 98, of Albion, died Sunday, September 26, 1999, at Trillium Hospital in Albion.
Mrs. Butler was born December 2, 1900, in Bryan, Ohio, to Joseph and Mary (Lewis) Bowlby. She married Justus Burns May 6, 1917, in Litchfield, and he preceded her in death August 1, 1948. She then married Charles Butler January 27, 1951, in Greenville. He preceded her in death January 11, 1953.
Mrs. Butler came to this area from Ohio in 1909. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Vivian I. Deforest of Albion; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Harold W. Burns, February 28, 1999.
A memorial service was held Saturday, October 2, at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, Inc., with the Rev. William Holbrook officiating.

Carl M. Hakes
Carl M. Hakes, 93, of Concord, died Thursday, September 30, 1999, at Hillsdale Community Health Center.
Mr. Hakes was born September 30, 1906, in Eckford to Ray and Bessie (Ansterburg) Hakes. He married Eva Raser August 25, 1928, in Concord. She survives.
Mr. Hakes was a lifelong resident of the Calhoun-Jackson counties area. He was self-employed as a cabinet maker. He was well-known for making dulcimers and was also an international champion sheep sheerer. He was a member of the Concord Universalist Church for 71 years, a member of the Concord Heritage Association and a founding member of Uncle Carl's Dulcimer Club. He was a musician all his life.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Carl (Judy) Hakes II of Onondaga, and Daniel (Kathy) Hakes of Manchester; four daughters, Dr. Judith Hakes of San Angelo, Texas, Mrs. Stanley (Edith) Chapman of Mosherville, Trinka Hakes Noble of Bernardsville, New Jersey, and Mrs. Mike (Eva Martin) Clark of Hillsdale; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Helen Peck of Marshall, Dorothy Root of Concord, Louise Cook of Stockbridge and Roberta Ross of Berrien Springs.
He was preceded in death by a son Howard; two brothers, Howard and Herbert; and a sister Catherine Houghton.
Private funeral services were held at the Concord Universalist Church with John Kinney presiding. Burial was in Fisher Cemetery in Homer Township. Funeral arrangements were handled by Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapel of Homer.

John A. Evans
John A. Evans, 79, of Litchfield, died Wednesday, September 29, 1999, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.
Mr. Evans was born December 12, 1919, in Jerome to Evan and Julia (Bird) Evans. He graduated from Addison High School in 1939 and worked on several farms in the area, then worked for the Hillsdale County Road Commission for 30 years.
Mr. Evans married Wanda Whalton May 7, 1941, in Hillsdale, She survives. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge #555 and Rebekah Lodge #134 of Litchfield, the Fred Rogers Encampment #25, Patriarchs Militant #43 and a long-time member of the Litchfield Congregational Church. He loved to fish.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Robert (Ginger) Evans of Del Ray Beach, Florida, Thomas (Maudie) Evans of The Woodlands, Texas, and Donald (Lyle) Evans of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Sally Young of Rolland, and Juanita Kies of Hillsdale; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 2, at the Litchfield Congregational Church with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Litchfield.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield.

Roxie Risner
Roxie Risner, 92, of Homer, died at her residence, Monday, October 4, 1999, following a long illness.
Mrs. Risner was born February 28, 1907 in Prestonburg, Kentucky, to Charles and Lula (Dotson) Hackworth. She married Sherman Risner November 30, 1926, and he preceded her in death in 1986.
Mrs. Risner was a homemaker and a member of Christ Apostolic Church in Albion. She enjoyed quilting and gardening.
She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Vinetta Hackworth of Homer, Mrs. Joyce (Loretta) Miller of Florida, Mrs. Kenneth (Juanita) Brown of Parma, Mrs. Roberta Owens of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, Mrs. Maxine Yeager and Mrs. Doris Owens, both of Homer; 19 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Oma Manns of Indiana; and six bothers, Wayne Hackworth, Charles Hackworth Jr. and Thurman Hackworth, all of Kentucky, Elmer Hackworth and Vernice Hackworth, both of Stockbridge, and Vernal Hackworth of Indiana.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Risner was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Patrick and Thelma Hackworth, and a brother, Herman Hackworth.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Christ Apostolic Church, with the Revs. David Trammell and Ron Hackworth officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Homer.
The George White Funeral Home in Litchfield handled the arrangements.

Dorothy P. Root
Dorothy P. Root, 82, of Albion, died Monday, October 4, 1999, at Trillium Hospital in Albion.
Mrs. Root was born January 12, 1917, in Homer, to Vernon and Lula (Hoyt) Warner. She married A.I. Root August 29, 1949, in Angola, Indiana, and he preceded her in death April 29, 1982.
Mrs. Root was a lifelong resident of the Albion-Homer area. She was a homemaker and a member of the Albion Eagles and Albion Moose. She loved people.
She is survived by her brother Howard (Ida) Warner of Homer; a half-brother William Warner of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Root was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Warner and Louis Warner, and four sisters, Onabelle Mortzfeldt, Altha Dennis, Mable Root and Adelia Radee.
Graveside services will be held today (Wednesday) at noon at Albion Memory Gardens with the Rev. Greg Martin officiating.

Leola M. Wirebaugh
Leola M. Wirebaugh, 88, of Albion, died Sunday, October 3, 1999, at Albion Manor Care Center in Albion.
Mrs. Wirebaugh was born January 5, 1911, in Tekonsha, to Herbert and Winifred (Snyder) McMurtrie Sr. She first married Leo H. Derhammer in 1926, and he preceded her in death April 14, 1974. She then married John Wirebaugh May 10, 1975, in Albion, and he survives in Marshall.
Mrs. Wirebaugh was a lifelong resident of the Calhoun County area. She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Albion since 1958. She was also a member of the Marengo Extension Club. She loved sewing, crocheting, knitting and quilting.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wirebaugh is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Dolas) Warners of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Ralph (Irma) Piske and Mrs. Jerry (Carol) Posey, both of Albion; several stepchildren; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Reha Takacs of Beaverton; and two stepsisters, Lucille Chaney of Marshall and Glenna Sanford of Jonesville.
In addition to her first husband, Mrs. Wirebaugh was preceded in death by a son, Douglas L. Derhammer; a brother, Herbert McMurtrie Jr.; and a half brother, Virgil Wirebaugh.
Friends may call at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels today (Wednesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Albion, with the Rev. James Waddell presiding. Burial will follow in Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall.

Leona Margaret Sommer
Leona Margaret Sommer, 82, of Coldwater, died Monday, October 11, 1999, at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
Mrs. Sommer was born July 29, 1917, in Kalamazoo, to Edward Theron and Flossie I. (O'Dell) Rustenholtz. She married Oscar (J.E.) Sommer August 21, 1938, in Albion. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Mrs. Sommer lived most of her life in the Homer-Albion-Tekonsha areas. She was a self-employed beautician for more than 30 years. She moved to Coldwater in 1995. She was a former member of the Clarendon Extension Club. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and enjoyed oil painting, garage sales, playing the piano and playing cards.
Survivors include a son, Stanley Sommer of Albion; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Sandra) Dorer of Quincy, Justin (Wanda) Mears of Sturgis, and Ken (Sue) Bir of Bronson; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother Arnold Rustenholtz of Albion.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sommer was preceded in death by a sister, Reta Thurston.
Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels.
The funeral will be Thursday, October 14, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Waddell officiating.
Burial will be in Albion Memory Gardens.

Lucinda Kay Compton
Lucinda Kay Compton, 11, of Angola, Indiana, died Monday, October 11, 1999, at the University of Michigan Mott's Children's Hospital.
Lucinda was born August 1, 1988, in Albion, to Tracy and Vickie (Fletcher) Compton. They survive, in Kentucky and Angola, respectively.
Lucinda attended Prairie Heights School in Angola. She enjoyed swimming, flashlight tag and roller skating. She attended Harrington School in Albion before moving to Indiana. She also loved attending Apostolic Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, survivors include a stepfather, David W. Brown of Angola; two sisters, Cora Fletcher of Albion and Samantha Compton of Angola; one brother, Johnny Kendrick of Angola; one stepbrother, Larry Brown of Jackson; grandparents Murlene Fletcher of Angola, Charles Fletcher of Battle Creek and Linda Compton and Ed and Joan Brown, all of Albion; a nephew, Anthony Fletcher of Albion; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandfather, Millis Perkins of Homer.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 15, at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, with the Rev. Abe Prater officiating. Burial was in Albion Memory Gardens.

Robert D. Folk
Robert D. Folk, 78, of Homer, died Monday, October 25, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Folk was born June 18, 1921, in Coldwater, to Louis Henry and Bessie Jane (Byers) Folk. He married Doris J. Shaffer July 4, 1943 in Decatur. She survives.
Mr. Folk was a life resident of the area and graduated from Homer High School. He was a World War II Air Force veteran and was a prisoner of war. He was the president of Folk Oil Company until his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Homer, the Lions Club, the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed his woodworking, his time in Florida and especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Michael J. (Susan J.) Linton of Lapeer; a son, Richard D. (Jan) Folk, of Homer; five grandchildren, Brett, James and Keri Linton of Lapeer, and Thyra and Deanne Folk of Homer; six sisters, Lorene Yost of Leesburg, Florida, Lucille Miller of Homer, Mrs. Samuel (Elizabeth) Neufer of Albion, and Mrs. Vernon (Glenna) Fast, Mrs. Harry (Jeanne) Cutcher and Mrs. Donald (Charleen) Streets, all of Coldwater.
Mr. Folk was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Griffiths.
Visitation is today (Wednesday) after 9 a.m. at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels. Funeral services are Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Homer with the Revs. Charlotte Poetschner and Larry Fulton officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Easter Irene King
Easter Irene King, 58, of Homer, died Monday, October 18, 1999, at Foote Hospital in Jackson.
Mrs. King was born April 10, 1941, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, to Rollie and Mossie (Ketchum) Hollon. She married Robert King in Jackson, Kentucky, in 1956. He survives.
Mrs. King lived in the Homer area since 1974. She worked in various nursing homes in the area.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Dave (Donna) Barlond of Marshall, Mrs. Timothy (Teresa) Collins of Albion, Glenda Moore of Albion, and Mrs. Dottie (Sherry) Hall of Homer; one son, Christopher (Patricia) King of Albion; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Timothy Hollon of Olivet; four sisters, Mrs. Odell (Betty) Hall of Homer, Mrs. James (Mary Ann) Wright of Homer, Mrs. Danny (Martha) Rowe of Olivet, and Mrs. Glen (Pamela) Bentley of Albion.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Mildred Louise Hollon.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 22, at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels. Burial was in Albion Memory Gardens.

Varlin Nichols
Varlin Nichols, 81, of Hillsdale, died Thursday, October 21, 1999, at the Laurels of Coldwater.
Mr. Nichols was born October 16, 1918, in Salyersville, Kentucky, to Amos and Sarah Nickles. He had worked for several farmers in the Homer area and was also a custodian at Hillsdale High School for a few years. He loved fishing and watching TV westerns and wrestling. His wife Vicie (Clemens) preceded him in death in 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Ann Johnston of Albion; three sons, David Ackerman of Texas and Allen and Bennie Nickles, both of Hillsdale; three sisters, Eva Jordan of Hillsdale, Evie Whattie of Ohio and Shirley Cole of Coldwater; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 25, at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Litchfield.
David Timothy Elliott
David Timothy Elliott, 29, of Litchfield, died Friday, October 22, 1999, at University Hospital in Ann Arbor.
Mr. Elliott was born July 29, 1970, in Lima, Ohio, to Herman and Sally (Meeks) Marshall. They survive in Litchfield.
He graduated from Albion High School in 1988.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Elliott is survived by three sisters, Michelle Bryant and her fiancée Robert Burlew of Tekonsha, and Brenda Kidd and Cheryl Marshall, both of Owosso; two brothers, Tim Marshall of Tekonsha and Phil Kidd of Owosso; his grandfather, George Meeks of Litchfield; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Marshall.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield, with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Litchfield.

Alton Lee "Butch" Neal, Sr.
Alton Lee "Butch" Neal, Sr., 54, of Tekonsha, died Monday, October 25, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Neal was born September 19, 1945, in Albion, to Clarence John and Vera (VanDyke) Neal. He married Loretta Blair March 7, 1964, in Homer. She survives.
Mr. Neal was a resident of the Calhoun County area his entire life. He worked at Alfab, Union Steel, Albion Malleable, Althaver Chevy and Brookside Auto, retiring in 1986. He was a former volunteer fireman for Tekonsha and a former coach for the Demon fast pitch softball team of Marshall. He was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge and the Horseshoe League of the Moose, and the Albion Eagles. He enjoyed bowling and stock car racing.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Alton (Karlene) Neal II of Union City, and Larry (Shondel) Neal of Tekonsha; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Penny) Parker of Gaylord, and Mrs. Brian (Pamela) Edwards, of Homer; seven grandchildren; five brothers, Clarence J. Neal of Alabama, Robert Neal of Albion, James Neal of Marshall, Harold Neal of Burr Oak, and Donald Neal of Alabama; and three sisters, Loretta Maynard of Niles, Lucille Roberson of Kalamazoo and Linda Stafford of Alabama.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene Williams, Frances Donke, Caroline Neal and Edith Neal.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 28, at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, with the Rev. Daryl Dexter officiating. Burial was in Albion Memory Gardens.

Basil W. Sizemore, stillborn son of Estill and Celestia (Marshall) Sizemore of Homer, died Tuesday, October 26, 1999, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, Paul and Hermalinda Marshall of Hillsdale; maternal great-grandmother Bertha Rosales of Hillsdale; paternal grandparents James and Juanita Sizemore of Homer; and paternal great-grandparents Keen and Madge Sizemore of Hyden, Kentucky.
Graveside services were held Thursday, October 29, at Whig Center Cemetery in Butler Township, with Pastor Richard Braman officiating.

Gertrude E. Martin
Gertrude E. Martin, 77, of Homer, died Thursday, October 28, 1999, at Foote Hospital in Jackson.
Mrs. Martin was born September 28, 1922, in Sharon, to Raymond and Esther (Anderson) Barber. She married Eldon Lee Martin July 21, 1941, and he preceded her in death September 13, 1980.
She enjoyed walking, needlework and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Martin is survived by three sons, Larry (Janet) Martin and Roger (Fran) Martin of Homer and Steven (Ann) Martin of Albion; two daughters, Carolyn (Larry) Thomas of Tekonsha and Susan Martin of Homer; a brother, Clifford Barber of South Boardman; a sister, Marie Tinker of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Eloise Densmore.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Martin was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Martin.
Graveside services were held Saturday, October 30, at Fairview Cemetery in Homer with the Rev. Larry Fulton officiating.

Ella M. Draper
Ella M. Draper, 100, of Homer, died Saturday, October 30, 1999, at the Litchfield Nursing Centre in Litchfield.
Mrs. Draper was born May 6, 1899, in Mobile, Alabama, to George and Flora (Schutt) Shanaberger. She first married Cloyd Williams, and then Melvin W. Draper, both of whom preceded her in death.
Mrs. Draper came to the Homer area in the 1940s from Jackson. She was a housewife, helping on the farm. She belonged to the Free Methodist Church at Pulaski and had been a member of the Jackson Sweet Adelines. She was a Gold Star Mother and belonged to the Willing Workers Club at Fisher's Corner.
She is survived by two daughters, Marcella Bronson of Homer and Berneice Warner of Tucson, Arizona; a son, Charles R. Williams of Brookston, Indiana; and several grand-, great-grand-, and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Draper was preceded in death by a son, Jack Williams, and a daughter, Irene Windle.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 2, at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels. Burial followed in Fisher Cemetery.

Lois McKeel
Lois McKeel, 90, of Bradenton, Florida, and formerly of Homer, died Monday, November 1, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. McKeel was born May 25, 1909, in Puryear, Tennessee, to John Henry and Sallie (Taylor) McCormick. She married William W. McKeel August 4, 1934, and he preceded her in death November 26, 1995.
Mrs. McKeel was a former resident of Ferndale, Northville and Homer, and wintered in Bradenton from 1973 until she became a permanent resident of Florida in 1993.
She was a member of the Manitee Methodist Church, and a homemaker who loved to spend time with family. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, square dancing, traveling and entertaining. She was a former sales clerk for the J.L. Hudson Corporation, a Girl Scout leader and a member of the O.E.S.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Lois McKeel; a grandson, Chuck (Lisa) Pratt; and two great-grandchildren, Gregory and Michael Pratt, all of Milan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joe Denver McCormick; her twin brother, Louis McCormick; and a grandson, Timmy Pratt.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 7, at Peoples Presbyterian Church in Milan, with the Rev. Frank Dunbar officiating. Private burial followed on Monday in Marble Park Cemetery in Milan.
The Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan handled the funeral arrangements.

Clayton Alexander Hopp Jr.
Clayton Alexander "Skip" Hopp Jr., 54, died Wednesday, October 20, 1999, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mr. Hopp was born August 8, 1945, in Detroit, to Clayton and Monica (Williams) Hopp. They survive in Homer. He was married to Susan Parent, and she also survives.
He graduated from Ann Arbor High School and was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Army. He then graduated from Cleary College with a degree in business.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hopp is survived by a daughter, Megan Elizabeth; a grandmother, Louise Williams; a brother, Daniel Hopp; two sisters, Elizabeth Heller and Emily Salvette; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins.
Memorial services were held at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, Sunday, October 24. A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Homer, Saturday, November 13.

Josie S. Carranza
Josie S. Carranza, 70, of Homer, died Sunday, November 7, 1999, at Foote Hospital in Jackson.
Mrs. Carranza was born December 3, 1928, in Lockhart, Texas, to Domingo and Maria Soledad (Partida) Guzman. She married Juan R. Carranza January 16, 1950, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and he preceded her in death April 23, 1994.
Mrs. Carranza worked at the Fort Wayne sanitarium before coming to Albion in 1956. She also worked at area potato and onion farms. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Albion. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and watching television. She loved being with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Carranza is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Juan Manuel (Juanita) Vasquez of Homer; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandy Ortiz of Albion; two brothers, Eristeo E. Guzman of Saginaw and Esi Guzman of Marshall; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Johnnie and Tony; a brother, Joe Guzman; and a sister, Petra Flores.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from noon-5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. - noon at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels. There will be a rosary service at 4 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Funeral services will be held graveside at Albion Memory Gardens Thursday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Gordon Greene officiating.

Larry C. Martin
Larry C. Martin, 56, of Homer, died suddenly Wednesday, November 10, 1999, at Trillium Hospital in Albion.
Mr. Martin was born November 24, 1943, in Coldwater, to Eldon and Gertrude (Barber) Martin. He married Janet Dale September 17, 1966, in Paris, Michigan. She survives.
Mr. Martin lived in Homer for 55 years and worked for the Village of Homer. He was a past volunteer fireman for the village and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and people.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Victoria "Vicky") Kenyon of Albion, and Mrs. Stanton (Melissa) Friedrick of Concord; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Roger (Fran) Martin of Homer and Steve (Ann) Martin of Albion; two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Carolyn) Thomas of Tekonsha and Susan Martin of Homer.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1980, his mother in October of 1999, and a sister, Sandra Martin
A memorial services was held Saturday, November 13, at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, with the Rev. Phillip Friedrick officiating. According to his wishes, cremation has taken place.

Floyd H. "Brownie" Campbell
Floyd H. "Brownie" Campbell, 65, of Litchfield, died Wednesday, November 17, 1999, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Mr. Campbell was born October 27, 1934, in Calhoun County to Jimmie and Mabel (Wintersteen) Campbell. His first wife, Mildred Patterson, preceded him in death in 1983. He married Shirley Listemann in 1985. She survives.
Mr. Campbell lived most of his life in the Litchfield area. He retired from Jackson Iron & Metal where he had been a truck driver for 12 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a former member of the Moose and Eagles lodges, and he enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing and hunting.
In addition to his second wife, survivors include seven daughters, Sarah Pratt and Betty Campbell of Jonesville, Carol (Dave) Neff of Flora, Illinois, Ferrel Spieth of Jonesville, Patt Cline of Litchfield, Chris (Kevin) Moran of Reading, and Jan (Aaron) Staten of Litchfield; one son, Chuck (Cindy) Campbell of Milan, Tennessee; three sisters, Vergie (Bob) Moran of Clearwater, Florida, Marge (Jim) Olney of Hanover, and Carol Rucker of Litchfield; six brothers, Forrest Campbell of Ocala, Florida, Homer (Judy) Campbell of Petersburg, Harry Campbell of Monroe, North Carolina, Bill (Mary Lou) Campbell of Russellville, Missouri, Sam (Debbie) Campbell of Clark Lake and Mark Campbell of Waterloo, Iowa; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by a son, Larry VanDorn, three brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were Saturday, November 20, at the Litchfield United Methodist Church with the Rev. Larry Fulton officiating. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Litchfield.

Steven L. Ladd, 47, of Litchfield, died Saturday, November 27, 1999, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.
Mr. Ladd was born February 26, 1952, in Hillsdale, to Burton and Lorene (Foulk) Ladd. They survive in Litchfield. He was a 1971 graduate of Litchfield High School and was an area factory employee for years.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister, Mrs. Russ (Marcia) Gauger of Hillsdale; three brothers, Phil Ladd of Litchfield, Larry Ladd of Jonesville and Dennis Ladd of Litchfield; three nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, December 1) at 11 a.m. at the Litchfield United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating.
Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Litchfield.

Catelyn Dillion
Catelyn Dillion, daughter of Ronnie and Eileen (Chamberlain) Dillion, of Homer, was stillborn Sunday, November 28, 1999, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.
In addition to her parents, Catelyn is survived by her brother Casey Dillion (at home); paternal grandmother Zelleree Dillion and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Clair Chamberlain, all of Homer; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather Charles Dillion, a sister Emily, and a bother Mitchell.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery in Homer with the Rev. Linda Burson officiating.
Donations may be made to any children's charity.

Evelyn M. Butters
Evelyn M. Butters, 81, of Homer, died Wednesday, December 1, 1999, at Battle Creek Health System's Leila Site.
Mrs. Butters was born November 17, 1918, in Traverse City to Leon C. and Inez (Hoxie) Hammontree.
She married Francis S. Butters July 24, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1989.
She worked at Doris Grocery, Bascom Grocery, Young's IGA and Felpausch in Albion for 25 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the West Eckford Missionary Church. She was a foster grandparent at Homer Elementary School for several years and enjoyed crafts and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Purucker of Battle Creek; a son, Frederick (Joyce) Butters of Homer; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Hammontree of Boyne City and Jerry Hammontree of Homer; and six sisters, Phyllis Winnick, Betty Parker and Jean Rauch, all of Homer, Margaret Carolan of Sage Lake, and Marcia Butters and Doris McWatters, both of Homer.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Butters was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Hammontree, and a son, Richard F. Butters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 4, at the West Eckford Missionary Church, with the Rev. David Nichols officiating. Interment was in Albion Memory Gardens.
Funeral arrangements were handled by the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield.

Maurice E. McCullough
Maurice E. McCullough, 69, of Homer, died Sunday, December 5, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. McCullough was born December 28, 1929, in Eckford Township, to Carleen and Elsie (King) McCullough. He married Mary Lou Machin July 22, 1951, in Homer. She survives.
Mr. McCullough was a 1948 graduate of Homer High School. He was formerly employed by Union Steel Products in Albion, and later worked for Cal-Bay Farm Equipment, along with Howard Andrews. He also worked for Wonser Farm Equipment in Battle Creek, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of the Homer United Methodist Church, a former National Guard member in Albion, a member of the Homer Lions Club, a former Cub Scout master, and a member of the Homer Parks and Recreation Committee. Mr. McCullough enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting and golf, and was very interested in Homer history. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McCullough is survived by his daughter-in-law Sheri McCullough and two grandsons, Josh McCullough and Matt McCullough, all of Homer.
He was preceded in death by his son Jeffery in February of 1999; two brothers, Earl and William; and a sister, Lillian.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 7, at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, with the Rev. Linda Burson officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery, Homer.

Willis F. Owens, 58, of Homer, died Tuesday, December 7, 1999, at home.
Mr. Owens was born January 9, 1941, in Bell County, Kentucky, to Nathaniel and Reda Owens. He married Judy Patrick December 8, 1968. She survives.
Mr. Owens lived most of his life in Homer. He was a collector of model cars and knives, and he enjoyed walking, bicycling and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Mary Owens of Albion; two sons, Bob (Melissa) Owens of Homer and Mark Owens of Albion; one sister, Elizabeth Stevens of Albion; three brothers, Luther Owens of Albion, John Owens of Concord and Nathaniel Owens of Albion; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 10, at Faith Community Church in Albion, with the Rev. Melvin Howard officiating.
Funeral arrangements were handled by George White Funeral Home in Litchfield.

Howard Earl Dunham
Howard Earl Dunham, 84, of Pulaski, died Sunday, December 12, 1999, at Albion Care Centre.
Mr. Dunham was born October 5, 1915, in Pulaski Township, to Floyd and Bertha (Bates) Dunham. He married Louise Mansfield February 16, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1997.
Mr. Dunham was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a farmer and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed cutting wood and dancing. He was engaged in custom combining.
Survivors include a son Charles (Penny) Dunham of Hanover; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Dunham was preceded in death by a brother, Albert, and a sister, Mary DeForest.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 15, at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield, with the Rev. Bob Marston officiating. Interment was in Pulaski Cemetery.

Patsy J. Drumm
Patsy J. Drumm, 67, of Addison and formerly of Homer, died Friday, December 17, 1999, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.
Mrs. Drumm was born July 13, 1932, in Ray, Indiana, to Harry and Helen (Wagoner) Armstrong. She graduated from Homer High School in 1952. She married Donald E. Drumm June 20, 1959. He survives.
Mrs. Drumm enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, bingo and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of "The Chubs Club" in Addison.
In addition to her husband, survivors include five daughters, Mrs. David (Sheila) Frost of Mt. Home, Arkansas, Mrs. Mike (Wendy) Wheeler of Homer, Sheryl Fulton of Angola, Indiana, Mrs. David (Louise) Boehlke of Albion, and Julie Jeffrey of Homer; two sons, Donald E. Drumm, Jr. and Michael (Paula) Drumm, both of Homer; two brothers, Robert (JoAnn) Armstrong of Tennessee and Donald L. Armstrong of Homer; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two special nephews, Jack and Anthony Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Darlene Ann.
Funeral services were Monday, December 20, at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield, with the Rev. Harris Hoekwater officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Homer.

Thomas Scott Wilmer
Thomas Scott Wilmer, 55, of Litchfield, died Sunday, December 19, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Wilmer was born July 12, 1944, in Hillsdale, to Thomas E. and Genevieve C. (Reader) Wilmer. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1962 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Mr. Wilmer married Pamela Smith in Litchfield August 19, 1967. She survives.
Mr. Wilmer was employed by the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Department for more than 25 years, and currently was the undersheriff. He was a member of the Michigan Sheriff's Association, Litchfield Athletic Boosters, was a former member of the Litchfield Community Schools Board of Education, served as an assistant junior varsity football coach for many years, was a hunter safety instructor, a 911 Emergency Dispatch Board alternate and was a Sheriff's Posse Liaison.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Kristine M. (Wilmer) Blonde and Mrs. Bruno (Kelly A.) Baermann, both of Litchfield; two sons, John and Joseph Wilmer, both of Litchfield; one brother, James M. Wilmer of Stanton; two grandchildren, Joshua and Elli Blonde; a mother-in-law, (Anita) Pat Smith of Litchfield, and cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Visitation was Tuesday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services are today (Wednesday) at 1 p.m. in the Litchfield High School gymnasium, with the Revs. Kathy Brown and Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Litchfield.

Jan Mary Butler
Jan Mary (Kalanquin) Butler, 37, of Flushing, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 19, 1999, at McLaren Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Butler was born April 5, 1962, in Flint, to John and Phyllis Kalanquin. They survive. She was a lifelong resident of the Flint area. She was a 1980 graduate of Grand Blanc High School and of Central Michigan University. She married Lyndol Butler August 4, 1984, in Flint. He survives.
Mrs. Butler was a member of the St. Robert Catholic Church, where she taught CCD, and was a member of Mother's Together. She was a licensed social worker for Genesee County. She was a loving wife, mother and daughter.
In addition to her husband and parents, survivors include two sons, Matthew and Samuel, and a daughter, Cathryn, all at home; and her mother-in-law, Marie Butler, of Homer.
Visitation is today (Wednesday) from 1-9 p.m. at Swartz Funeral Home in Flint. A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be at the church from 9 a.m. Thursday until the time of the mass.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing, with Father Steve Makranyi officiating.
Burial will be in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.

Paul Smeltzer, Jr.
Paul Smeltzer, Jr., 33, of Homer, died Sunday, December 26, 1999, at Trillium Hospital in Albion.
Mr. Smeltzer was born April 7, 1966 in Albion to Paul and Cora (Edler) Smeltzer. His mother survives him in Homer, while his father preceded him in death.
Mr. Smeltzer was a graduate of Homer High School and Davenport Business College. He was employed at Bob Frahm Chevrolet in Albion. He formerly owned and operated Chicago Joe's Video in Litchfield and had been a distribution manager for the Battle Creek Enquirer & News for several years.
Mr. Smeltzer enjoyed bowling and was a member of the 300 Club and several area leagues. He was also a fan of car racing.
In addition to his mother, survivors include four sisters, Diane Cline of Pana, Illinois, Dorene Love of Molino, Florida, Barbara Smeltzer of Bankers and Cora Angell of Flushing; a brother, Larry "Buddy" Smeltzer of Homer; and special friends, Jeff and Deb Peters, of Jackson.
Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 30, at 1 p.m. at the funeral, with the Rev. Larry Fulton officiating. Interment will follow in Albion Memory Gardens.

James E. Pritchard
James E. Pritchard, 60, of Coldwater, died Monday, September 27, 1999, at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
Mr. Pritchard was born in Homer November 6, 1938, to George and Clairabel (Earl) Pritchard. He graduated from Homer High School in 1956 and attended Albion College for one year. He was an electrician, retiring from IBEW Local 445 in Battle Creek after 21 years.
Mr. Pritchard enjoyed reading, traveling, wildlife, nature and his two dogs. He was a member of the Coldwater Eagles Club.
In addition to his mother, Clairabel Thompson of Homer, survivors include his wife Sally; two daughters, Gina Pritchard of Albion and Jennifer (Steve) Johnson of Olivet; two sons, James R. (Karma) Pritchard of Meridian, Indiana, and Timothy (Mary) Pritchard of Ocqueoc; a stepdaughter, SharAnne (Joe) Carnell of Battle Creek; two stepsons, Steven Snyder of Orange, California, and Todd (Mari) Snyder of Marshall; a sister, Elizabeth (Chas) Sleath of Clancy, Montana; and seven grandchildren.
There were no services; cremation has taken place. Funeral arrangements were handled by Putnam Funeral Home of Coldwater.

Eva B. Butler
Eva B. Butler, 98, of Albion, died Sunday, September 26, 1999, at Trillium Hospital in Albion.
Mrs. Butler was born December 2, 1900, in Bryan, Ohio, to Joseph and Mary (Lewis) Bowlby. She married Justus Burns May 6, 1917, in Litchfield, and he preceded her in death August 1, 1948. She then married Charles Butler January 27, 1951, in Greenville. He preceded her in death January 11, 1953.
Mrs. Butler came to this area from Ohio in 1909. She was a homemaker and a member of the Church of God.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Vivian I. Deforest of Albion; seven grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, she was preceded in death by a son, Harold W. Burns, February 28, 1999.
A memorial service was held Saturday, October 2, at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, Inc., with the Rev. William Holbrook officiating.

Carl M. Hakes
Carl M. Hakes, 93, of Concord, died Thursday, September 30, 1999, at Hillsdale Community Health Center.
Mr. Hakes was born September 30, 1906, in Eckford to Ray and Bessie (Ansterburg) Hakes. He married Eva Raser August 25, 1928, in Concord. She survives.
Mr. Hakes was a lifelong resident of the Calhoun-Jackson counties area. He was self-employed as a cabinet maker. He was well-known for making dulcimers and was also an international champion sheep sheerer. He was a member of the Concord Universalist Church for 71 years, a member of the Concord Heritage Association and a founding member of Uncle Carl's Dulcimer Club. He was a musician all his life.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Carl (Judy) Hakes II of Onondaga, and Daniel (Kathy) Hakes of Manchester; four daughters, Dr. Judith Hakes of San Angelo, Texas, Mrs. Stanley (Edith) Chapman of Mosherville, Trinka Hakes Noble of Bernardsville, New Jersey, and Mrs. Mike (Eva Martin) Clark of Hillsdale; 11 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and four sisters, Helen Peck of Marshall, Dorothy Root of Concord, Louise Cook of Stockbridge and Roberta Ross of Berrien Springs.
He was preceded in death by a son Howard; two brothers, Howard and Herbert; and a sister Catherine Houghton.
Private funeral services were held at the Concord Universalist Church with John Kinney presiding. Burial was in Fisher Cemetery in Homer Township. Funeral arrangements were handled by Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapel of Homer.

John A. Evans
John A. Evans, 79, of Litchfield, died Wednesday, September 29, 1999, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.
Mr. Evans was born December 12, 1919, in Jerome to Evan and Julia (Bird) Evans. He graduated from Addison High School in 1939 and worked on several farms in the area, then worked for the Hillsdale County Road Commission for 30 years.
Mr. Evans married Wanda Whalton May 7, 1941, in Hillsdale, She survives. He was a member of the IOOF Lodge #555 and Rebekah Lodge #134 of Litchfield, the Fred Rogers Encampment #25, Patriarchs Militant #43 and a long-time member of the Litchfield Congregational Church. He loved to fish.
In addition to his wife, survivors include three sons, Robert (Ginger) Evans of Del Ray Beach, Florida, Thomas (Maudie) Evans of The Woodlands, Texas, and Donald (Lyle) Evans of Houston, Texas; two sisters, Sally Young of Rolland, and Juanita Kies of Hillsdale; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and six brothers.
Funeral services were held Saturday, October 2, at the Litchfield Congregational Church with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Litchfield.

Roxie Risner
Roxie Risner, 92, of Homer, died at her residence, Monday, October 4, 1999, following a long illness.
Mrs. Risner was born February 28, 1907 in Prestonburg, Kentucky, to Charles and Lula (Dotson) Hackworth. She married Sherman Risner November 30, 1926, and he preceded her in death in 1986.
Mrs. Risner was a homemaker and a member of Christ Apostolic Church in Albion. She enjoyed quilting and gardening.
She is survived by six daughters, Mrs. Vinetta Hackworth of Homer, Mrs. Joyce (Loretta) Miller of Florida, Mrs. Kenneth (Juanita) Brown of Parma, Mrs. Roberta Owens of Chapel Hill, Tennessee, Mrs. Maxine Yeager and Mrs. Doris Owens, both of Homer; 19 grandchildren; several great- and great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Oma Manns of Indiana; and six bothers, Wayne Hackworth, Charles Hackworth Jr. and Thurman Hackworth, all of Kentucky, Elmer Hackworth and Vernice Hackworth, both of Stockbridge, and Vernal Hackworth of Indiana.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Risner was preceded in death by two sisters, Maxine Patrick and Thelma Hackworth, and a brother, Herman Hackworth.
Funeral services are scheduled for 11 a.m. today (Wednesday) at the Christ Apostolic Church, with the Revs. David Trammell and Ron Hackworth officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Homer.

Dorothy P. Root
Dorothy P. Root, 82, of Albion, died Monday, October 4, 1999, at Trillium Hospital in Albion.
Mrs. Root was born January 12, 1917, in Homer, to Vernon and Lula (Hoyt) Warner. She married A.I. Root August 29, 1949, in Angola, Indiana, and he preceded her in death April 29, 1982.
Mrs. Root was a lifelong resident of the Albion-Homer area. She was a homemaker and a member of the Albion Eagles and Albion Moose. She loved people.
She is survived by her brother Howard (Ida) Warner of Homer; a half-brother William Warner of Arizona; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Root was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles Warner and Louis Warner, and four sisters, Onabelle Mortzfeldt, Altha Dennis, Mable Root and Adelia Radee.
Graveside services will be held today (Wednesday) at noon at Albion Memory Gardens with the Rev. Greg Martin officiating.

Leola M. Wirebaugh
Leola M. Wirebaugh, 88, of Albion, died Sunday, October 3, 1999, at Albion Manor Care Center in Albion.
Mrs. Wirebaugh was born January 5, 1911, in Tekonsha, to Herbert and Winifred (Snyder) McMurtrie Sr. She first married Leo H. Derhammer in 1926, and he preceded her in death April 14, 1974. She then married John Wirebaugh May 10, 1975, in Albion, and he survives in Marshall.
Mrs. Wirebaugh was a lifelong resident of the Calhoun County area. She was a homemaker, and a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Albion since 1958. She was also a member of the Marengo Extension Club. She loved sewing, crocheting, knitting and quilting.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Wirebaugh is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Fred (Dolas) Warners of Grand Rapids, and Mrs. Ralph (Irma) Piske and Mrs. Jerry (Carol) Posey, both of Albion; several stepchildren; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; a sister, Reha Takacs of Beaverton; and two stepsisters, Lucille Chaney of Marshall and Glenna Sanford of Jonesville.
In addition to her first husband, Mrs. Wirebaugh was preceded in death by a son, Douglas L. Derhammer; a brother, Herbert McMurtrie Jr.; and a half brother, Virgil Wirebaugh.
Friends may call at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels today (Wednesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Albion, with the Rev. James Waddell presiding. Burial will follow in Oakridge Cemetery in Marshall.

Leona Margaret Sommer
Leona Margaret Sommer, 82, of Coldwater, died Monday, October 11, 1999, at the Community Health Center of Branch County.
Mrs. Sommer was born July 29, 1917, in Kalamazoo, to Edward Theron and Flossie I. (O'Dell) Rustenholtz. She married Oscar (J.E.) Sommer August 21, 1938, in Albion. He preceded her in death in 1981.
Mrs. Sommer lived most of her life in the Homer-Albion-Tekonsha areas. She was a self-employed beautician for more than 30 years. She moved to Coldwater in 1995. She was a former member of the Clarendon Extension Club. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and enjoyed oil painting, garage sales, playing the piano and playing cards.
Survivors include a son, Stanley Sommer of Albion; three daughters, Mrs. Joe (Sandra) Dorer of Quincy, Justin (Wanda) Mears of Sturgis, and Ken (Sue) Bir of Bronson; 10 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a brother Arnold Rustenholtz of Albion.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Sommer was preceded in death by a sister, Reta Thurston.
Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels.
The funeral will be Thursday, October 14, 11 a.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. James Waddell officiating.
Burial will be in Albion Memory Gardens.

Lucinda Kay Compton
Lucinda Kay Compton, 11, of Angola, Indiana, died Monday, October 11, 1999, at the University of Michigan Mott's Children's Hospital.
Lucinda was born August 1, 1988, in Albion, to Tracy and Vickie (Fletcher) Compton. They survive, in Kentucky and Angola, respectively.
Lucinda attended Prairie Heights School in Angola. She enjoyed swimming, flashlight tag and roller skating. She attended Harrington School in Albion before moving to Indiana. She also loved attending Apostolic Church of Christ.
In addition to her parents, survivors include a stepfather, David W. Brown of Angola; two sisters, Cora Fletcher of Albion and Samantha Compton of Angola; one brother, Johnny Kendrick of Angola; one stepbrother, Larry Brown of Jackson; grandparents Murlene Fletcher of Angola, Charles Fletcher of Battle Creek and Linda Compton and Ed and Joan Brown, all of Albion; a nephew, Anthony Fletcher of Albion; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by a great-grandfather, Millis Perkins of Homer.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 15, at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, with the Rev. Abe Prater officiating. Burial was in Albion Memory Gardens.

Robert D. Folk
Robert D. Folk, 78, of Homer, died Monday, October 25, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Folk was born June 18, 1921, in Coldwater, to Louis Henry and Bessie Jane (Byers) Folk. He married Doris J. Shaffer July 4, 1943 in Decatur. She survives.
Mr. Folk was a life resident of the area and graduated from Homer High School. He was a World War II Air Force veteran and was a prisoner of war. He was the president of Folk Oil Company until his retirement. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Homer, the Lions Club, the VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed his woodworking, his time in Florida and especially his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Michael J. (Susan J.) Linton of Lapeer; a son, Richard D. (Jan) Folk, of Homer; five grandchildren, Brett, James and Keri Linton of Lapeer, and Thyra and Deanne Folk of Homer; six sisters, Lorene Yost of Leesburg, Florida, Lucille Miller of Homer, Mrs. Samuel (Elizabeth) Neufer of Albion, and Mrs. Vernon (Glenna) Fast, Mrs. Harry (Jeanne) Cutcher and Mrs. Donald (Charleen) Streets, all of Coldwater.
Mr. Folk was preceded in death by a sister, Eloise Griffiths.
Visitation is today (Wednesday) after 9 a.m. at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels. Funeral services are Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Homer with the Revs. Charlotte Poetschner and Larry Fulton officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery.

Easter Irene King
Easter Irene King, 58, of Homer, died Monday, October 18, 1999, at Foote Hospital in Jackson.
Mrs. King was born April 10, 1941, in Breathitt County, Kentucky, to Rollie and Mossie (Ketchum) Hollon. She married Robert King in Jackson, Kentucky, in 1956. He survives.
Mrs. King lived in the Homer area since 1974. She worked in various nursing homes in the area.
In addition to her husband, survivors include four daughters, Mrs. Dave (Donna) Barlond of Marshall, Mrs. Timothy (Teresa) Collins of Albion, Glenda Moore of Albion, and Mrs. Dottie (Sherry) Hall of Homer; one son, Christopher (Patricia) King of Albion; 13 grandchildren; one brother, Timothy Hollon of Olivet; four sisters, Mrs. Odell (Betty) Hall of Homer, Mrs. James (Mary Ann) Wright of Homer, Mrs. Danny (Martha) Rowe of Olivet, and Mrs. Glen (Pamela) Bentley of Albion.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Mrs. Mildred Louise Hollon.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 22, at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels. Burial was in Albion Memory Gardens.

Varlin Nichols
Varlin Nichols, 81, of Hillsdale, died Thursday, October 21, 1999, at the Laurels of Coldwater.
Mr. Nichols was born October 16, 1918, in Salyersville, Kentucky, to Amos and Sarah Nickles. He had worked for several farmers in the Homer area and was also a custodian at Hillsdale High School for a few years. He loved fishing and watching TV westerns and wrestling. His wife Vicie (Clemens) preceded him in death in 1977.
Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Ann Johnston of Albion; three sons, David Ackerman of Texas and Allen and Bennie Nickles, both of Hillsdale; three sisters, Eva Jordan of Hillsdale, Evie Whattie of Ohio and Shirley Cole of Coldwater; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 25, at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Burial was in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Litchfield.
David Timothy Elliott
David Timothy Elliott, 29, of Litchfield, died Friday, October 22, 1999, at University Hospital in Ann Arbor.
Mr. Elliott was born July 29, 1970, in Lima, Ohio, to Herman and Sally (Meeks) Marshall. They survive in Litchfield.
He graduated from Albion High School in 1988.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Elliott is survived by three sisters, Michelle Bryant and her fiancée Robert Burlew of Tekonsha, and Brenda Kidd and Cheryl Marshall, both of Owosso; two brothers, Tim Marshall of Tekonsha and Phil Kidd of Owosso; his grandfather, George Meeks of Litchfield; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Marshall.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield, with the Rev. Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment was in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Litchfield.

Alton Lee "Butch" Neal, Sr.
Alton Lee "Butch" Neal, Sr., 54, of Tekonsha, died Monday, October 25, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. Neal was born September 19, 1945, in Albion, to Clarence John and Vera (VanDyke) Neal. He married Loretta Blair March 7, 1964, in Homer. She survives.
Mr. Neal was a resident of the Calhoun County area his entire life. He worked at Alfab, Union Steel, Albion Malleable, Althaver Chevy and Brookside Auto, retiring in 1986. He was a former volunteer fireman for Tekonsha and a former coach for the Demon fast pitch softball team of Marshall. He was a member of the Marshall Moose Lodge and the Horseshoe League of the Moose, and the Albion Eagles. He enjoyed bowling and stock car racing.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two sons, Alton (Karlene) Neal II of Union City, and Larry (Shondel) Neal of Tekonsha; two daughters, Mrs. Larry (Penny) Parker of Gaylord, and Mrs. Brian (Pamela) Edwards, of Homer; seven grandchildren; five brothers, Clarence J. Neal of Alabama, Robert Neal of Albion, James Neal of Marshall, Harold Neal of Burr Oak, and Donald Neal of Alabama; and three sisters, Loretta Maynard of Niles, Lucille Roberson of Kalamazoo and Linda Stafford of Alabama.
He was preceded in death by four sisters, Irene Williams, Frances Donke, Caroline Neal and Edith Neal.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 28, at the Albion Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, with the Rev. Daryl Dexter officiating. Burial was in Albion Memory Gardens.

Basil W. Sizemore, stillborn son of Estill and Celestia (Marshall) Sizemore of Homer, died Tuesday, October 26, 1999, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.
In addition to his parents, survivors include his maternal grandparents, Paul and Hermalinda Marshall of Hillsdale; maternal great-grandmother Bertha Rosales of Hillsdale; paternal grandparents James and Juanita Sizemore of Homer; and paternal great-grandparents Keen and Madge Sizemore of Hyden, Kentucky.
Graveside services were held Thursday, October 29, at Whig Center Cemetery in Butler Township, with Pastor Richard Braman officiating.

Gertrude E. Martin
Gertrude E. Martin, 77, of Homer, died Thursday, October 28, 1999, at Foote Hospital in Jackson.
Mrs. Martin was born September 28, 1922, in Sharon, to Raymond and Esther (Anderson) Barber. She married Eldon Lee Martin July 21, 1941, and he preceded her in death September 13, 1980.
She enjoyed walking, needlework and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Mrs. Martin is survived by three sons, Larry (Janet) Martin and Roger (Fran) Martin of Homer and Steven (Ann) Martin of Albion; two daughters, Carolyn (Larry) Thomas of Tekonsha and Susan Martin of Homer; a brother, Clifford Barber of South Boardman; a sister, Marie Tinker of Grand Rapids; nine grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Eloise Densmore.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Martin was also preceded in death by a daughter, Sandra Martin.
Graveside services were held Saturday, October 30, at Fairview Cemetery in Homer with the Rev. Larry Fulton officiating.

Ella M. Draper
Ella M. Draper, 100, of Homer, died Saturday, October 30, 1999, at the Litchfield Nursing Centre in Litchfield.
Mrs. Draper was born May 6, 1899, in Mobile, Alabama, to George and Flora (Schutt) Shanaberger. She first married Cloyd Williams, and then Melvin W. Draper, both of whom preceded her in death.
Mrs. Draper came to the Homer area in the 1940s from Jackson. She was a housewife, helping on the farm. She belonged to the Free Methodist Church at Pulaski and had been a member of the Jackson Sweet Adelines. She was a Gold Star Mother and belonged to the Willing Workers Club at Fisher's Corner.
She is survived by two daughters, Marcella Bronson of Homer and Berneice Warner of Tucson, Arizona; a son, Charles R. Williams of Brookston, Indiana; and several grand-, great-grand-, and great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her husbands, Mrs. Draper was preceded in death by a son, Jack Williams, and a daughter, Irene Windle.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 2, at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels. Burial followed in Fisher Cemetery.

Lois McKeel
Lois McKeel, 90, of Bradenton, Florida, and formerly of Homer, died Monday, November 1, 1999, at her home.
Mrs. McKeel was born May 25, 1909, in Puryear, Tennessee, to John Henry and Sallie (Taylor) McCormick. She married William W. McKeel August 4, 1934, and he preceded her in death November 26, 1995.
Mrs. McKeel was a former resident of Ferndale, Northville and Homer, and wintered in Bradenton from 1973 until she became a permanent resident of Florida in 1993.
She was a member of the Manitee Methodist Church, and a homemaker who loved to spend time with family. She enjoyed sewing, cooking, gardening, square dancing, traveling and entertaining. She was a former sales clerk for the J.L. Hudson Corporation, a Girl Scout leader and a member of the O.E.S.
Survivors include a daughter, Ann Lois McKeel; a grandson, Chuck (Lisa) Pratt; and two great-grandchildren, Gregory and Michael Pratt, all of Milan.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant brother, Joe Denver McCormick; her twin brother, Louis McCormick; and a grandson, Timmy Pratt.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 7, at Peoples Presbyterian Church in Milan, with the Rev. Frank Dunbar officiating. Private burial followed on Monday in Marble Park Cemetery in Milan.
The Ochalek-Stark Funeral Home in Milan handled the funeral arrangements.

Clayton Alexander Hopp Jr.
Clayton Alexander "Skip" Hopp Jr., 54, died Wednesday, October 20, 1999, in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Mr. Hopp was born August 8, 1945, in Detroit, to Clayton and Monica (Williams) Hopp. They survive in Homer. He was married to Susan Parent, and she also survives.
He graduated from Ann Arbor High School and was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the United States Army. He then graduated from Cleary College with a degree in business.
In addition to his wife and parents, Mr. Hopp is survived by a daughter, Megan Elizabeth; a grandmother, Louise Williams; a brother, Daniel Hopp; two sisters, Elizabeth Heller and Emily Salvette; and nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and many cousins.
Memorial services were held at Northminster Presbyterian Church in Cincinnati, Sunday, October 24. A committal service will be held at 11 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Homer, Saturday, November 13.

Josie S. Carranza
Josie S. Carranza, 70, of Homer, died Sunday, November 7, 1999, at Foote Hospital in Jackson.
Mrs. Carranza was born December 3, 1928, in Lockhart, Texas, to Domingo and Maria Soledad (Partida) Guzman. She married Juan R. Carranza January 16, 1950, in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and he preceded her in death April 23, 1994.
Mrs. Carranza worked at the Fort Wayne sanitarium before coming to Albion in 1956. She also worked at area potato and onion farms. She was a member of St. John Catholic Church in Albion. She enjoyed cooking, crocheting and watching television. She loved being with her grandchildren.
Mrs. Carranza is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Juan Manuel (Juanita) Vasquez of Homer; 12 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; a sister, Sandy Ortiz of Albion; two brothers, Eristeo E. Guzman of Saginaw and Esi Guzman of Marshall; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sons, Johnnie and Tony; a brother, Joe Guzman; and a sister, Petra Flores.
Visitation will be held today (Wednesday) from noon-5 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. - noon at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels. There will be a rosary service at 4 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Funeral services will be held graveside at Albion Memory Gardens Thursday at 1 p.m., with the Rev. Gordon Greene officiating.

Larry C. Martin
Larry C. Martin, 56, of Homer, died suddenly Wednesday, November 10, 1999, at Trillium Hospital in Albion.
Mr. Martin was born November 24, 1943, in Coldwater, to Eldon and Gertrude (Barber) Martin. He married Janet Dale September 17, 1966, in Paris, Michigan. She survives.
Mr. Martin lived in Homer for 55 years and worked for the Village of Homer. He was a past volunteer fireman for the village and enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping and people.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Lloyd (Victoria "Vicky") Kenyon of Albion, and Mrs. Stanton (Melissa) Friedrick of Concord; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Roger (Fran) Martin of Homer and Steve (Ann) Martin of Albion; two sisters, Mrs. Larry (Carolyn) Thomas of Tekonsha and Susan Martin of Homer.
He was preceded in death by his father in 1980, his mother in October of 1999, and a sister, Sandra Martin

Floyd H. "Brownie" Campbell
Floyd H. "Brownie" Campbell, 65, of Litchfield, died Wednesday, November 17, 1999, at Borgess Medical Center in Kalamazoo.
Mr. Campbell was born October 27, 1934, in Calhoun County to Jimmie and Mabel (Wintersteen) Campbell. His first wife, Mildred Patterson, preceded him in death in 1983. He married Shirley Listemann in 1985. She survives.
Mr. Campbell lived most of his life in the Litchfield area. He retired from Jackson Iron & Metal where he had been a truck driver for 12 years. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a former member of the Moose and Eagles lodges, and he enjoyed his grandchildren, fishing and hunting.
In addition to his second wife, survivors include seven daughters, Sarah Pratt and Betty Campbell of Jonesville, Carol (Dave) Neff of Flora, Illinois, Ferrel Spieth of Jonesville, Patt Cline of Litchfield, Chris (Kevin) Moran of Reading, and Jan (Aaron) Staten of Litchfield; one son, Chuck (Cindy) Campbell of Milan, Tennessee; three sisters, Vergie (Bob) Moran of Clearwater, Florida, Marge (Jim) Olney of Hanover, and Carol Rucker of Litchfield; six brothers, Forrest Campbell of Ocala, Florida, Homer (Judy) Campbell of Petersburg, Harry Campbell of Monroe, North Carolina, Bill (Mary Lou) Campbell of Russellville, Missouri, Sam (Debbie) Campbell of Clark Lake and Mark Campbell of Waterloo, Iowa; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
In addition to his first wife, Mr. Campbell was preceded in death by a son, Larry VanDorn, three brothers and a sister.

Steven L. Ladd, 47, of Litchfield, died Saturday, November 27, 1999, at the Hillsdale Community Health Center.
Mr. Ladd was born February 26, 1952, in Hillsdale, to Burton and Lorene (Foulk) Ladd. They survive in Litchfield. He was a 1971 graduate of Litchfield High School and was an area factory employee for years.
In addition to his parents, survivors include a sister, Mrs. Russ (Marcia) Gauger of Hillsdale; three brothers, Phil Ladd of Litchfield, Larry Ladd of Jonesville and Dennis Ladd of Litchfield; three nieces and three nephews.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents.

Catelyn Dillion
Catelyn Dillion, daughter of Ronnie and Eileen (Chamberlain) Dillion, of Homer, was stillborn Sunday, November 28, 1999, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.
In addition to her parents, Catelyn is survived by her brother Casey Dillion (at home); paternal grandmother Zelleree Dillion and maternal grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Clair Chamberlain, all of Homer; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her grandfather Charles Dillion, a sister Emily, and a bother Mitchell.
Graveside services were held Tuesday at Fairview Cemetery in Homer with the Rev. Linda Burson officiating.

Evelyn M. Butters
Evelyn M. Butters, 81, of Homer, died Wednesday, December 1, 1999, at Battle Creek Health System's Leila Site.
Mrs. Butters was born November 17, 1918, in Traverse City to Leon C. and Inez (Hoxie) Hammontree.
She married Francis S. Butters July 24, 1937. He preceded her in death in 1989.
She worked at Doris Grocery, Bascom Grocery, Young's IGA and Felpausch in Albion for 25 years. She was a member of the VFW Auxiliary and the West Eckford Missionary Church. She was a foster grandparent at Homer Elementary School for several years and enjoyed crafts and gardening.
Survivors include a daughter, Peggy Purucker of Battle Creek; a son, Frederick (Joyce) Butters of Homer; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Bill Hammontree of Boyne City and Jerry Hammontree of Homer; and six sisters, Phyllis Winnick, Betty Parker and Jean Rauch, all of Homer, Margaret Carolan of Sage Lake, and Marcia Butters and Doris McWatters, both of Homer.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Butters was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Hammontree, and a son, Richard F. Butters.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 4, at the West Eckford Missionary Church, with the Rev. David Nichols officiating. Interment was in Albion Memory Gardens.

Maurice E. McCullough, 69, of Homer, died Sunday, December 5, 1999, at his residence.
Mr. McCullough was born December 28, 1929, in Eckford Township, to Carleen and Elsie (King) McCullough. He married Mary Lou Machin July 22, 1951, in Homer. She survives.
Mr. McCullough was a 1948 graduate of Homer High School. He was formerly employed by Union Steel Products in Albion, and later worked for Cal-Bay Farm Equipment, along with Howard Andrews. He also worked for Wonser Farm Equipment in Battle Creek, retiring in 1992.
He was a member of the Homer United Methodist Church, a former National Guard member in Albion, a member of the Homer Lions Club, a former Cub Scout master, and a member of the Homer Parks and Recreation Committee. Mr. McCullough enjoyed reading, fishing, hunting and golf, and was very interested in Homer history. He especially enjoyed his grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, Mr. McCullough is survived by his daughter-in-law Sheri McCullough and two grandsons, Josh McCullough and Matt McCullough, all of Homer.
He was preceded in death by his son Jeffery in February of 1999; two brothers, Earl and William; and a sister, Lillian.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 7, at the Homer Chapel of Tidd-Williams Funeral Chapels, with the Rev. Linda Burson officiating. Burial followed in Fairview Cemetery, Homer.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Homer Community Foundation.

Willis F. Owens
Willis F. Owens, 58, of Homer, died Tuesday, December 7, 1999, at home.
Mr. Owens was born January 9, 1941, in Bell County, Kentucky, to Nathaniel and Reda Owens. He married Judy Patrick December 8, 1968. She survives.
Mr. Owens lived most of his life in Homer. He was a collector of model cars and knives, and he enjoyed walking, bicycling and woodworking.
In addition to his wife, survivors include a daughter, Mary Owens of Albion; two sons, Bob (Melissa) Owens of Homer and Mark Owens of Albion; one sister, Elizabeth Stevens of Albion; three brothers, Luther Owens of Albion, John Owens of Concord and Nathaniel Owens of Albion; and six grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two brothers and a sister.
Funeral services were held Friday, December 10, at Faith Community Church in Albion, with the Rev. Melvin Howard officiating.
Funeral arrangements were handled by George White Funeral Home in Litchfield.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Howard Earl Dunham
Howard Earl Dunham, 84, of Pulaski, died Sunday, December 12, 1999, at Albion Care Centre.
Funeral services will be today (Wednesday) at 1 p.m. at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield, with the Rev. Bob Marston officiating. Interment will be in Pulaski Cemetery.

Howard Earl Dunham
Howard Earl Dunham, 84, of Pulaski, died Sunday, December 12, 1999, at Albion Care Centre.
Mr. Dunham was born October 5, 1915, in Pulaski Township, to Floyd and Bertha (Bates) Dunham. He married Louise Mansfield February 16, 1946. She preceded him in death in 1997.
Mr. Dunham was a lifelong resident of the area. He was a farmer and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He enjoyed cutting wood and dancing. He was engaged in custom combining.
Survivors include a son Charles (Penny) Dunham of Hanover; and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Dunham was preceded in death by a brother, Albert, and a sister, Mary DeForest.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 15, at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield, with the Rev. Bob Marston officiating. Interment was in Pulaski Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the American Heart Association or the Pulaski Free Methodist Church.
Patsy J. Drumm
Patsy J. Drumm, 67, of Addison and formerly of Homer, died Friday, December 17, 1999, at Oaklawn Hospital in Marshall.
Mrs. Drumm was born July 13, 1932, in Ray, Indiana, to Harry and Helen (Wagoner) Armstrong. She graduated from Homer High School in 1952. She married Donald E. Drumm June 20, 1959. He survives.
Mrs. Drumm enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, bingo and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was a member of "The Chubs Club" in Addison.
In addition to her husband, survivors include five daughters, Mrs. David (Sheila) Frost of Mt. Home, Arkansas, Mrs. Mike (Wendy) Wheeler of Homer, Sheryl Fulton of Angola, Indiana, Mrs. David (Louise) Boehlke of Albion, and Julie Jeffrey of Homer; two sons, Donald E. Drumm, Jr. and Michael (Paula) Drumm, both of Homer; two brothers, Robert (JoAnn) Armstrong of Tennessee and Donald L. Armstrong of Homer; 16 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and two special nephews, Jack and Anthony Armstrong.
She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant sister, Darlene Ann.
Funeral services were Monday, December 20, at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield, with the Rev. Harris Hoekwater officiating. Interment was in Fairview Cemetery in Homer.
Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association.
Thomas Scott Wilmer
Thomas Scott Wilmer, 55, of Litchfield, died Sunday, December 19, 1999, at his home.
Mr. Wilmer was born July 12, 1944, in Hillsdale, to Thomas E. and Genevieve C. (Reader) Wilmer. He graduated from Litchfield High School in 1962 and served in the U.S. Marine Corps.
Mr. Wilmer married Pamela Smith in Litchfield August 19, 1967. She survives.
Mr. Wilmer was employed by the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Department for more than 25 years, and currently was the undersheriff. He was a member of the Michigan Sheriff's Association, Litchfield Athletic Boosters, was a former member of the Litchfield Community Schools Board of Education, served as an assistant junior varsity football coach for many years, was a hunter safety instructor, a 911 Emergency Dispatch Board alternate and was a Sheriff's Posse Liaison.
In addition to his wife, survivors include two daughters, Kristine M. (Wilmer) Blonde and Mrs. Bruno (Kelly A.) Baermann, both of Litchfield; two sons, John and Joseph Wilmer, both of Litchfield; one brother, James M. Wilmer of Stanton; two grandchildren, Joshua and Elli Blonde; a mother-in-law, (Anita) Pat Smith of Litchfield, and cousins, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
Visitation was Tuesday from 1-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services are today (Wednesday) at 1 p.m. in the Litchfield High School gymnasium, with the Revs. Kathy Brown and Clyde Wonders officiating. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in Litchfield.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Hillsdale County or the Tom Wilmer Memorial Scholarship Fund.
Jan Mary Butler
Jan Mary (Kalanquin) Butler, 37, of Flushing, died unexpectedly Sunday, December 19, 1999, at McLaren Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. Butler was born April 5, 1962, in Flint, to John and Phyllis Kalanquin. They survive. She was a lifelong resident of the Flint area. She was a 1980 graduate of Grand Blanc High School and of Central Michigan University. She married Lyndol Butler August 4, 1984, in Flint. He survives.
Mrs. Butler was a member of the St. Robert Catholic Church, where she taught CCD, and was a member of Mother's Together. She was a licensed social worker for Genesee County. She was a loving wife, mother and daughter.
In addition to her husband and parents, survivors include two sons, Matthew and Samuel, and a daughter, Cathryn, all at home; and her mother-in-law, Marie Butler, of Homer.
Visitation is today (Wednesday) from 1-9 p.m. at Swartz Funeral Home in Flint. A vigil service will be held at 6 p.m. at the funeral home. The body will be at the church from 9 a.m. Thursday until the time of the mass.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at St. Robert Catholic Church in Flushing, with Father Steve Makranyi officiating.
Burial will be in New Calvary Catholic Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Michigan Special Olympics.

Paul Smeltzer, Jr.
Paul Smeltzer, Jr., 33, of Homer, died Sunday, December 26, 1999, at Trillium Hospital in Albion.
Mr. Smeltzer was born April 7, 1966 in Albion to Paul and Cora (Edler) Smeltzer. His mother survives him in Homer, while his father preceded him in death.
Mr. Smeltzer was a graduate of Homer High School and Davenport Business College. He was employed at Bob Frahm Chevrolet in Albion. He formerly owned and operated Chicago Joe's Video in Litchfield and had been a distribution manager for the Battle Creek Enquirer & News for several years.
Mr. Smeltzer enjoyed bowling and was a member of the 300 Club and several area leagues. He was also a fan of car racing.
In addition to his mother, survivors include four sisters, Diane Cline of Pana, Illinois, Dorene Love of Molino, Florida, Barbara Smeltzer of Bankers and Cora Angell of Flushing; a brother, Larry "Buddy" Smeltzer of Homer; and special friends, Jeff and Deb Peters, of Jackson.
Visitation will be today (Wednesday) from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the George White Funeral Home in Litchfield. Funeral services will be Thursday, December 30, at 1 p.m. at the funeral, with the Rev. Larry Fulton officiating. Interment will follow in Albion Memory Gardens.
